Garan woke when the alarm on her padd began to bleep insistently in her ear. For a moment, she was disorientated, then it all came rushing back. Blinking sleep out of her eyes, she rolled over and checked her padd. Some things were coming. half a dozen things, with a mass of about eighty kilos each. She pressed a button to scan the bio signatures for a species id, just in case they were animals. Then she reached out to Duquense. "sir, wake up, we've got incoming." She hissed, before crawling over to Kasikova and Kensington, and shaking the doctor awake.

Duquesne wasn't necessarily enjoying a nice slumber when he was awoken. The pain in his side had only allowed him to rest periodically in between brief spasms of pain. He slowly opened his eyes and began to adjust to the darkness around him as he tried to ascertain what was being said to him by the Petty Officer.

"What are you picking up?" Duquesne said as he slowly crawled to his side and drew his phaser and checked the power supply. It was not at full power, but it was good enough to allow the team to escape. He climbed into a crouching position and raised his weapon before him as he tried look behind the trees that had enclosed the group for their stay on the planet.

In silence she showed him the tricorder, and the six bio signs heading towards them. They weren't making a beeline straight towards them, but slowly and steadily moving in the direction of the downed fleeters.

Duquesne nodded as he calibrated his phaser. "Get the Doctor and Jana out of here." He ordered as he began to scan the distant horizon.

"But Sir, I-"

"That is an order. Jana is in no condition to fend off attackers and we need the doctor for obvious reasons. I will hold them off long enough for you all to get to a safer location or at the very least an area in which you can try to contact the rest of the convoy." He said in a lowered tone as he continued to exam the tricorder and observing the lifesigns.

Ben was awake now, cradling Jana in his left arm and putting his med kit strap over his head and across his shoulder with his right. He began to carry her, hitching her up so she was held close into his chest, his arms supporting her weight as he ran, half-crouching after Garan. "If we get Jana away, we...we should go back and help" he puffed.

She nodded her agreement as she pushed her way amongst the trees, kicking up leaf-litter all around, most of the gear slung over her shoulders. "One against six? We shouldn't leave it too long."

"Ben...put me down...you have to go and help." Jana said weakly. "Hide me...but go back and help."

As the remainder of the crew disappeared from his immediate field of vision, Duquesne groaned slightly in pain as he felt the side of his ribcage. He knew that he'd have to ignore the pain for a little while longer until he could buy enough time for the crew to escape.

The incomers were close enough now the tactical officer to hear them. They moved quietly, not crashing around but moving with purpose. Voices were indistinct at first, and then he heard snatches of conversation as they moved towards him.

"Over here... can't be far now, they've got wounded... No sign of Whisst's boy's... Try comms?... Fed frequencies still blocked..."

And then from his hiding place, Duquesne saw them working their way through the trees, six humans, two with long phaser rifles, the others with smaller side arms, spread out in a line along the ridge, gaze sweeping back and forth, looking for the survivors.

Duquesne aimed his phaser, knowing that he would not have a chance to take out all of the attacks before being taken out himself. He knew that he would have to move fast in order to give his crew mates a chance to survive.

He aimed his first shot at the first individual holding the long phaser rife. After the first shot, Duquesne ducked down and retreated from his location and quickly made his way to a large pile of boulders just 2 meters away from his former position.

The searchers stopped, two going to their downed comrade. Two more, including the second with a phaser rifle, began sweeping the weapons around trying to cover all directions at once. The last stood fast and called out. "Hold your fire. We mean you no harm. we're on your side! Hold your fire!"

Duquesne was not certain if he could believe their word, considering how well-armed they were. "Drop your weapons first!" He shouted from his position. Fortunately, the area created an echo effect, making it difficult to pinpoint his location.

"Lower your weapons the toss them into one pile," Duquesne shouted.
