Deception: The lesser part of Valour – "You're in charge."

Zorana left Jarred's office and hit her comm badge.

Zorana was walking fast through the corridors, again she didn't trying not to draw attention to herself. She had the Iso-Key in her hand. Once she had a visit with her mother she would head over to get the pictures for Wallace.
Her mind started to wander to the Quartermaster that she was supposed to meet and got a strange tingling feeling running down her spine. She was nervous but knew that Wallace needed her help. She became involved in this so called mission the minute that Wallace took her to the Legacy. She was now an operative in a cat and mouse game. She laughed, she was now a spy.
She rounded the corner and saw Claire standing there waiting for her. Zorana put her hand in her pocket and let the key fall into it. "Hi Claire." She smiled, "Come into my office please."
"Sure sure." Claire smiled back. Claire sat down across from Zorana, "What's up?" She asked after she took her seat.
Zorana reached into her desk and pulled out ten different evaluations putting them on her desk. "This is what's up. I'm leaving with the Captain for Earth. I need you to finish the last of the evaluations while I am gone."
Claire reached for the PADDs, "Me?" Her face going white.
"Listen Claire, I need you to finish this for me. This trip to Earth is a little sudden and I need someone that is competent. That would be you." She looked directly at Claire.
"Right, no problem." Claire tried to smile as she took the PADDs from Zorana's desk.
"I have every confidence in you."
"How long do you think you will be gone Zor?" She asked. Claire was the only one that was able to get away with calling her 'Zor'. Claire and Zorana had been friends and roommates at the Academy. They became best friends in a short period of time and were inseparable, unless on different missions. Claire was glad that be with Zorana again, even if Zorana was leaving for another mission, but she would be back.
"I'm not sure to be honest." ~That depends if I get caught.~
"Think you can handle this?" Zorana asked herself and Claire.
"No worries, of course I can handle this." She smiled and took the PADDs into her hands. "Anything else?" Claire asked as she stood.
Zorana thought for a moment and looked up at her friend. "Yes, actually. Federick has no idea that I am going back to Earth. I am going to do my best to avoid him but if he contacts you (since I have been ignoring all his messages) do not tell him where I am, under any circumstance do not tell him." Zorana couldn't afford Frederick to interfere with her official or the unofficial mission that she was going on.
Claire shuddered at the name of Zorana's possessive ex-boyfriend. "You can count on me. Don't worry." Claire was by the door. "Be safe."
"Thanks Claire." If only Claire knew what she was actually saying.
Claire smiled and left the office leaving Zorana to ponder the mission that Jarred had given her. She knew he wouldn't of given her anything that she couldn't handle. Zorana took the key from her pocket and put it on her desk. Jarred had trusted her wih a lot more than just doing what the Quartermaster was going to ask her to do, he trusted her with the part of his life that he left in that locker.
Zorana let the computer screen come up from her desk and sent her mother a quick message saying that she was returning to Earth for a short period and she would come and see her in Oakland for a cup of coffee and strudel.
She grabbed the Iso-Key from the desk and headed back to her quarters. She had work to do.
