Seriously, I do not know what to make of this time I've been dropped into. One one hand, the people of the Federation value freedom and liberty, and on the other hand, neo-fascism seems to be a fad with some of these people in the Federation. In some ways, the Federation is to be admired, and in others, this government could viciously oppress every race in the galaxy.

The people of this time do not know their history very well, if they did, they would realize what people like this base's Chief of Security could do. I've tried to explain it, but the humans of this time believe that Dorian Gabriel could not possibly be a threat to anyone but themselves.

They'll think differently when these people begin rewriting their Articles of the Federation. They'll definitely think differently when undesirables are carted off and people disappear. Hell they may even come after me because I might be a spy or something. Maybe this is why I am a Deep Space Scout and not a Politician. Henry David Thoreau once said "that government is best which governs least" and the Federation has so much protocol, so much bureaucracy, that one could wonder where they fit in here?

Anyway, I've just been given my first assignment from the Federation Exploratory Services. A planet that is very comparable to the Pre-Cambrian period on Earth. It would take billions of years for anything bigger than a prokayote to develop. But it will be of great interest to the many scientists in the Federation if I can catalog these primordial organisms. It is somewhat of a rarity in the Federation to witness what could be the origins of life, thats assuming I do not have to deal with even more religious zealots trying to sabotage efforts like this.

I think I need a drink.
