Interlude – a new outfit

Wayne looked over the supply list and the manifest for the new colony he had wanted to get started in the gamma quadrant. Everything seemed to be moving along smoothly, the planet that they had found had been scouted heavly both by orbital survey as well as by teams on the ground. It had been found to be almost earth like in the size and enviroment also there were no others looking at the system.
From what the stationary probes and satalites revealed it was the only planet even remotely of supporting life in a system of 11 planets. This alone was enough to get the attention of the corporation however the other things that he had found out were icing on the cake. All of the planets were rich in minerals and raw materials that would be needed for farther operations as well as for trade with other races. If protected and managed correctly it would be a huge windfall for the company and one that would sustain them for many years to come.
Wayne looked over the list of who would be going and what was being taken, considering the nature of this colony it would be more then most. There were 1100 families making this trip; and with them were supply ships carrying everything from industrial replicators and heavy farming machinery to construction materials for the settlements. All told there were something like 20 transports along with an escort of small armed ships. While not completely normal this particular colony was going to be a very long way from federation help and would need the extra defesive measures that the escorts could provide as well as some of the surprises that were in the colony ships.
All told there were very close to 5000 people going to setup the colony and though he would not tell anyone this time he was concerned. This would be the largest venture that the corporation had set out on to date and while everything so far had gone smoothly there was a chance however small that this could be their undoing.
Wayne did not try to think about that though rather he leaned back in his chair and steepled his fingers in front of his nose while looking at an antique clock. In just over 3 hours they would cross the entrance to the wormhole after that if things went well in a weeks time they would arrive at the planet and a couple months after that with luck they would have the main settlement built and be ready to support the colonists.
Something else that he had not told anyone not even his own sons ws that he fully intended for this to become the first step in a much wider plan something that would see his company remembered for all time.
