"I ... I don't know what to say."
Karen, a woman rarely incapable of finding the most apt words was struggling. She drew a breath, and blinked as the screen before her shimmered. The image of Admiral Brailsford waited for her to find that most important phrase.
"Let me get this right. I am recalled to Jag HQ to resume my calling, and my replacement is en route under the proteciton of the same Jared Wallace who was declared dead?"
"That about sums it up," Brailsford replied. "I'm not permitted to share the identity of the new Executive Officer of Deep Space Five, but rest assured that she is familiar with the station and many of the staff. This is the start of a new era for DS5, Karen. You've held the fort whilst we negotiated this development. Now its time for you to come back to Earth. Don't tell me you've grown attached to the place."
Karen downed her espresso then shook her head. "I can't wait to leave," she said with the characteristic directness she employed when talking with those she trusted. "I'm overjoyed ..."
Her words were interrupted by a judder and a shake. An alarm followed. "Admiral, there's one more issue for me to deal with before I pack my bags. I cannot thank you enough for the news. Villiers out."
