Jarred had been avoiding meeting with the FNN reporter for a few days now but he was beginning to run out of excuses and his staff were having trouble coming up with new ones, so he decided to open the floor to the reporter, Jarred just hoped that he didn't open a can of worms in the process, he looked up from a daily report "Mr Whitlock, welcome take a seat."

Thomas nodded and moved to an empty chair. "Thank you for seeing me. I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

"Nope its a quiet day today" Jarred shifted in his seat and looked over "So My office got your request but it was kind of vague on what you wanted to talk about, you do realize that there are limits on what my office can talk about on the record."

"We don't have to discuss anything that can't be released," Thomas said to the man. "I'm more interested in getting to know the staff of the base. Nothing said between us will be published without your consent."

Jarred decided that he could move forward with this interview, "OK, but if I say so we move onto the next question, I only have official authority to answer what isn't one hundred percent clear, but otherwise we can talk about anything."

"What can you tell me about the current situation between the Cardassian and Romulans on the base?" Thomas asked.

"Touch and go, there are days you can sense some tension and it doesn't help that there has been a few minor incidents which are aggravated by some ill will left over from the Dominion war, can't blame them." Jarred said off hand.

"Has it spread to others on the base or is it confined to the embassies?" Thomas asked.

"To date there has been a few isolated instances, but noting that has escalated beyond some shoving matches."

"What do you personally think of the situation?" Thomas asked.

"There's always someone who will use any situation to meet there own agenda, be it religious extremists on earth during the twentieth century or nationalists during the founding of the federation, this is about the same in my opinion, If you look at the situation with Lieutenant Commander Gabriel, both sides are itching to start a full blown riot over the matter, it comes down to who pulls the trigger."

Thomas felt his face tighten at the mention of Lieutenant Commander Gabriel. "What made you decide to join Intelligence?" Thomas asked, "and why here on this base."

"I had the grades to get into the regular intelligence program at the academy, plus my brother was a marine so I wanted something to separate my self from his success." Jarred paused as he took a sip from his coffee "I was assigned here for originally one mission and when that ended I got posted here as Mr Gabriel's replacement."

"Do you enjoy being here?" Thomas asked.

"I do, this seems to be the place where a lot of action is, and its given my a chance to redeem myself from some incidents from the past."

"What incidents?" Thomas asked, sitting straighter in his chair.

"I punched out a Commodore in the late days of the Dominion war and got busted."

"Are you serious?" Thomas asked, trying not to laugh. "May I ask why?"

"It involved the recovery of some technology and its ethical use, that's about as far as I can go." Jarred said.

"I would love to hear more about that some time," Thomas said with a smile. "But I believe I've taken enough of your time for now," he said as he stood and extended his hand. "Thank you for seeing me."

"Ok, well if your ever down this way don't hesitate to stop in." Jarred said as he stood.

"You can count on it," Thomas said with a nod as he turned and walked to the door.
