Rioan rolled his eyes as the incoming message appeared on his screen labeled New Princeton University, Lake Armstrong.
"Computer, open channel."
On the screen appeared a man who appeared almost as an older version of Rioan himself. He had greying sideburns and wore the antique bifocals Rioan got him 2 years ago .
"Still not taking the optifren for your vision pop?" Rioan said.
"Damned stuff makes me sneeze. How is your new assignment son?"
Rioan's brow shot up with curiousity. He never talked about rioan's work first.
"Not to bad. I have some reports on a possible lead on the first federation. Im working on deciphering the computer core from the tenth ring of hell. How are things on the moon?"
"Quiet for the most part. I just finished the book on my last vulcan expedition so the school wants to give me another Honorary Doctorate. Your mother wanted to know if you'd come to the ceremony next month."
'There it is..' Rioan thought.
"Dad, I will try. It just depends if I can get the time and our other arrangement. Who I bring no matter who HE is?"
The older Mellar nodded.
"Rioan, I won't pretend to understand but If your happy, then I can deal with it. Can you deal with me ? Your mother , and your two uncles may have hammered a little common sense into me ."
Rioan didn't quite know what to make of this but found himself nodding.
"I will have to get back to you dad, but if it can happen...it will."
The elder Mellar nodded as the screen went black.
"Rioan, the planets are upside down now..what the heck happened?" Rioan spoke to himself as he went back to work.
