T'Lan was busy escorting Romulans back to their quarters. For a Vulcan, she was not in a good mood. She believed that Gabriel represented a worst threat to this Base than the Romulans, and she did not know what was happening anymore.

Claire was walking along side of T'Lan. "Dorian needs his ass kicked." She mumbled more to herself than to the Commander. Dorian was cold and heartless, especially the way he told her about about Jarred.

T'Lan shook her head. "I am doing the best I can to limit Gabriel's authority, however Starfleet is beginning to issue orders that superceed my authority."

"Do you not know how he told me that Jarred is dead?" The wound in her heart broke open again with the mention of his name. She couldn't sense him at the moment...

T'Lan nodded, "I have observed that Dorian Gabriel toys with peoples emotions to prove them inferior to himself. It is entirely logical that Jarred is still alive. Unfortunately I do not have the authority on this base that I would prefer. Crew assignments are now the direct domain of Starfleet Command. I have no authority over the Base's Marine contingent." The Vulcan actually had frusteration in her voice. "In short order I will have no authority at all."

"If I wouldn't be thrown in the brig I could think of a few choice things I would do to him. He ripped my heart out and stomped on it like it was snail under his boot."

T'Lan nodded, "I will file yet another grievance against his behavior." She said unsure about what to do.

"T'Lan it is not worth it...nothing will be done."

T'Lan spoke. "I do not understand what has transpired with Starfleet. When I was in the Academy, it was an organization dedicated to exploring the Galaxy. Now it is simply another military with an agenda. What do I do Counselor? Do I believe in what this Starfleet stands for?"

"I cannot tell you what to believe T'Lan...you know that. I am not sure what has happened back at headquarters."

T'Lan spoke. "Perhaps its better if we leave some things unsaid."

"T'Lan...what is really troubling you?" She asked.

T'Lan shook her head, "I feel that Starfleet is slowly being turned into another Dominion. Have you not noticed whats happened since the war. More aggressive starships have been produced from our shipyards. Marine and intelligence units have been given near carte blanche authority. The Dominion War special security laws have not been repealed by the Federation Council. More and more, we encounter more aggressive Starfleet Officers that feel that war is the only option. I don't know if Starfleet is an organization I want to serve. I long for the days of the past where we made peace before we contemplated war."

"These are still troubling times...Look at what we are facing now, the Romulans threatening to attack us. I am not condoning what Starfleet is doing, I want peace too. We will be there again T'Lan, I am sure of it." She tried to reassure her friend.

T'Lan shook her head. "And if people loose hope in peace, it will be gone forever. Officers like Dorian Gabriel are gaining rank in Starfleet. The next war will not be against the Dominion, but against ourselves."

"Then we will change things...together. I have connections still back on Earth...I am owed some favours..."

T'Lan nodded, "Use your connections carefully. We know where our loyalties lie, and there is no reason yet." She said hoping Claire would understand.

Claire nodded. "I will wait to hear from you again."

T'lan Left. "Computer, Access Code Beta Nine. Delete all monitoring records for this area, and overload this section's internal monitors." She then left. For all intents and purposes, the malfunction would be considered damage from the attack.
