==Captain's office==

"Thank you again for your hospitality, Captain. The men are very glad to have a few of the comforts of home on a long trip like this."

The Andorian transport captain waved an azure hand in dimissal. "Please, Lieutenant - by this point we have dined together every day since departing Deep Space 5. We should at least be on a first name basis by now. In fact - I insist."

Steve smiled weakly and set down his fork with a light clink. "If you insist, sir. I mean - Telev."

Captain Telev P'Trell had also insisted on Steve joining him for dinner in his office each night of the journey to Earth. He was an older man - stocky, with hair more silver than white. He had been executive officer of the Okinawa during the war, and had retired from Starfleet shortly after the armistice. Despite the name, he and Sharas weren't related. As Telev told it - the P'Trell clan is one of the largest on Andor, and many are only related through some distant relative ten generations back, if at all. As he put it, "You can't swing a dead targ around Laibok without hitting a P'Trell."

That had elicited a fairly hardy laugh from Wyman - the first he'd had in days.

"It's nice having some Starfleet personnel on board. I know they aren't on duty, but having some security crew on board has kept the civilians in line. Usually I have to smack them around myself when they get out of hand." Telev explained before taking a sip of his beverage.

Swallowing a mouthful of steak, Wyman suppressed a chuckle. "I can imagine you're fairly good at it, though. And I can also imagine it not being fun to be on the receiving end."

Before Telev could respond, the comm system squawked to life. "Captain, we're entering the Sol system now."

Both men exchanged glances. Their time was nearly at an end. "My apologies, Steven. It seems I'm needed on the bridge. You should round up your people and let them know we've nearly arrived."

Both of them stood and shook hands, as they had done at the conclusion of each meal. "Your journey is at an end. Ours is only just beginning."

As he moved toward the door, Telev smirked. "That first part sounded a bit ominous."

==A few minutes later==

Through the window it wasn't possible to see Earth, but Wyman knew it was out there. Somberly he laid a hand on the flag draped coffin. "We'll have you home soon, old friend. This is just a lay over. With any luck the Cavalry is already waiting for us."

A moment of morbidity settled over him, and he diverted his gaze to the casket. "Of course, if we had any luck..."

He didn't laugh at that, though. Instead he sighed. "This is the part where you'd narrow your eyes at me and say, 'That was highly inappropriate, Mr. Wyman.' You could never take a joke."

At that, he returned to looking out the window as the transport dropped out of warp. Yes - Sharas would be home soon.
