Shuttle cruiser Iditarod dropped out of warp and continued its path towards Deep Space Five. On board were several passengers from Mars Colony, Jupiter station and Earth. Among them was Doctor Halderon Ziggler, former Chief Counselor of the Soval, Bismarck and Relentless. He was chatting with another passenger when he heard the Pilot attempted to contact the station.

“Iditarod to Deep Space Five. Please respond.” The pilot said for the third time. Halderon excused himself from his conversation and made his way to the front of the vessel.

“Sorry sir, no passengers beyond this point.” A Starfleet Ensign told him. Hal showed him his identification, which showed his retirement rank as well as his Current Starfleet Security Clearance. A level five clearance level was a rarity, especially for a civilian, but there were extenuating conditions which warranted the necessity for it.

“My apologies, sir.” The Ensign said, almost giving a salute. Hal discreetly shook his head and the man nodded. “How can I help you?”

“It sounds like you’re having trouble reaching the station.” Hal said, taking a glance at the Pilot.

“Yes sir. A minor communications problem. We should be able to dock momentarily.”

“I see.” Hal said, noting the nervousness in the man’s eyes and the way his left eye twitched just a little. “And what happens if you can’t get in touch with the station?”

“We already have our clearance to land. Contacting them at this point is merely a courtesy to inform them of our arrival. Several of the passengers have family that may want to meet them when we disembark.” The ensign answered. “As I said, though, it’s merely a courtesy and a convenience for everyone involved.”

“That’s good to know.” Hal said, taking a step to return to his seat. “By the way, you didn’t see what you saw.” He said, patting his inner pocket that held his Identification. The ensign nodded in understanding and turned his attention back to his duties.

Hal returned to his seat, none the more convinced that there was a complication. A station that size doesn’t just lose communications and with their close proximity, they should have at least close range comms. He gave a reassuring nod to the lady he had been talking too and patted her arm. “Everything will be fine Miss Rendoza.”

As the Ensign had stated, the Shuttle Cruiser Iditarod moved through the massive bay doors and made its way to the inner docking ring. Moments later they were disembarking. The halls were virtually empty, which came as no surprise to Ziggler. After all, without being able to let the station know that they had arrived, how was anyone to know that they were there? It didn’t bother him in the least, considering he didn’t have anyone to meet nor did he have any official plans or business there. This was a new start in a new location for him. A chance to, should he desire it, begin his practice again. For now he was going to enjoy retirement.
