Time is Fleeting – A Delivery of Sorts
by Colonel James Darson & Captain Tasha Tahir (NPC)
Several hundreds of thousands of Kilometers above the side of Deep Space 5, a large Firefly class transport dropped out of warp, rolled over, and began a curving descent down to the station. After a few moments of silent travel through the blackness of space, it opened up an audio only communications channel with the Station.
“Deep Space 5 Operations, this is the transport Rio’nare, out of Task Group 17-Charlie. We are requesting clearance to dock with you and effect a personnel transfer.”
Bill had monitored the Firefly for at least ten minutes before they had made contact, as he was not convinced they were actually heading to the station.
"Rio'nare, request approved, but there will be a 35 minute docking delay as we are on minimal staff. Be appraised to set course to quadrant delta 9 on bearing 288 mark 37." he advised, signally the docking crew to be ready.
There was a moment of crackly silence on the channel and then the voice came back on, “Deep Space 5 Operations, Rio’nare. We acknowledge docking instructions. Please be advised that we estimate total time of transfer of personnel and equipment to be approximately 45 minutes.”
The large transport quickly and smoothly adjusted its course, and entered the docking queue. As they did so, they communicated again with the station, “Deep Space 5 Operations, Rio’nare. In accordance with my superior’s orders, I have been ordered to personally deliver several messages to Commander Davies. Would this be possible?”
Bill was tempted to say yes, but he knew better than to allow any non station officers free passage to the Commander.
"DS5 responding. Under current conditions, no officer other than current station personnel are permitted to meet with the station command staff until cleared by security or whilst conducting prior arranged diplomatic relations." The office stated in response. "If you transmit your identity clearance for clarification, such a request may be permitted." He added matter of factly.
There was another moment of static on the channel before the response came back, “Deep Space 5, this is Ensign Lossoon Takana, shuttle pilot off the Pendragon…Serial Number: CA1456521LT. Ah…hold one…I have just calibrated the shipboard clock for local time, and just realized that it an ungodly hour indeed. We’re on a tight schedule, so we must be en route as soon as possible…would you please see if the Commander is available?”
Bills eyes widened as he glanced at the clock. "Do you mean now, at this time of the morning. If I am going to wake him, it has to be important or he will have me thrown out of an airlock!" Bill responded seriously.
There was grumbling on the line, and then Takana came back, “Agh…alright. Unfortunately, we really are on a tight schedule…Officer, if left these messages for the Commander, could you ensure that he gets them?”
The question was a little out of the ordinary, but nevertheless, Bill had to agree.
"Most certainly. I would personally guarantee it." He responded.
“Excellent. I’ll come up and deliver them when we arrive on station. Rio’Nare out.”
