Beg, Steal or Borrow – Where's My Husband? 2
by Lieutenant Vincent Tan
“It seems that the Surgeon General’s office needed someone to inspect some refugee camps in the Typhon Sector. He should finish up his tour there in a few weeks before returning home. The CMO of the Franklin must have been his replacement,” Captain Patrick O’Connor said in between mouthfuls of shepherd’s pie.
“Hmmm,” Dr. Christina Tan pondered as she chewed. “It’s just odd that he hasn’t sent me any messages. I guess he’s moving around a lot or that the camps don’t have the facilities…”
“Once I find a new medical officer I’ll be heading that way myself. Maybe I could detour through the area and check in on him? Remind him to call home?”
“I’d appreciate that, Paddy,” Christina said, still mulling things over. It really was most unlike her husband to not call with news of his new assignment. He had always made sure that she and the kids knew where to reach him on his previous missions.
“Thanks for dinner, by the way. This is fantastic!” Captain O’Connor said, helping himself to another serve.
“It’s Terrance’s favourite,” she smiled. Her son was too busy playing with the creamy potato on top of the pie to actually consume it.

It was dark outside, this time due to night falling rather than the weather, when Patrick left the Tan household. He waved goodbye cheerily as he stepped into the taxi. The rain was still pouring down and the streets of Warragul were mostly empty as the vehicle pulled away swiftly from the Tan house. Once it was on the highway back to Melbourne, Patrick pulled out his communicator and made a short quick call.
“This is O’Connor. There’s a possibility that Uhlan’s spy on DS5 is Vincent Tan.” He hung up without adding anything else or hearing anything from the other side of the line. The call would have been too short for anyone to trace.
At the other end of the line, a full admiral smiled as he took in the cigar smoke. Another meeting of their council was due tomorrow and now that he was armed with this information, it would be easier for him to dictate the play. His plan was slowly taking shape.
