OLD:

"Why don't we get together later for a drink," Thomas suggested with a broad smile.

"That would be nice." Jana returned his smile again and headed for the door.

Thomas watched her leave and smiled as he turned back to the table and sipped his drink.

NEW:

Dorian sat down at the table just as Thomas turned back around towards his drink.

"Good afternoon Mr. Thomas." Dorian said in a flat and direct tone.

Thomas looked up and felt the blood drain from his face. "What do you want?"

Dorian picked up the drink before Thomas and looked at it for several moments before pouring it out and placing the empty glass back on the table between them.

"I don't know what your end-game is, Mr. Thomas." He continued in the same flat tone. "But I just thought it was imperative that you know that I don't like you." he stated while maintaining eye-contact with the man.

"The feeling's mutual," Thomas replied, returning the stare.

"I know that you are up to something, Mr. Thomas. Whether it is your attempt to seduce every female with two legs or you incessant desire to pry your nose into various station affairs. I don't know what it is, exactly, but I believe it is in your best interest to mind your P's and Q's." he said.

"I'm just trying to do my job," Thomas said. "Not that you would know anything about that."

"Let's be honest with one another for a moment, what is your 'job' onboard this station?" he asked. "This station has no need for a journalist or whatever you call yourself. Save me that 'doing my job' routine. What is your real purpose?" he further inquired.

"I could ask you the same thing," Thomas said. "The people at FNS felt there was a need for a reporter here so now I'm here. If you have a problem with that then take it up with them."

"The Federation News Service has much more important matters to focus on, namely the upcoming Presidential Elections. Why the hell would they care about this station?" He asked.

"Not every reporter is needed for the elections," Thomas replied. "Almost every base has a news service. Why should this one be any different?" He paused and looked at the man again. "Is there a reason you don't want someone reporting what's going on on this base?"

Dorian did not immediately respond to the man. Instead he simply stood up and left the reporter by himself.

Thomas watched the man leave and smiled. He had a feeling there was more going on with the Commander than what was immediately apparent. He shook his head and signaled for another drink.
