Maiell strolled from the turbolift onto the Promenade in his usual casual wear. Much as he loved his people, he often found the uniform a bit uncomfortable, even with the new design. The eagle symbol always seemed to dig into his chest, not matter what he did. Heading to the Box of Delights, the Romulan male walked over to the bar, offering the bar owner there the sweet smile he knew most felt was unique to him.

"Hello, Yolanthe," he said. Having been on the station a while, frequenting this particular venue, Maiell was on first name terms with most, though they knew to address him a bit more formally when his own teammates were with him.

"Hello sweetie, what can I get you?"

"I'll have some Bolian tonic water, please," he asked, sitting at the bar.

"Rough day?" Bolian tonic water was good for calming the nerves "Ice? At the moment, it’s made from waters taken from the Gahdrian Spring on Vulcan. Very very filtered. Lots of minerals."

"It's been a long, rough day," he admitted, "My cousin arrived at the Consulate," he told her with a smile.

"Ahh, family. Causing trouble already?" She offered him the credit padd and moved a couple of steps down the bar to get the bottle of Tonic Water.

"In only a way a woman named 'Hell' can," Maiell told her, paying her before putting the padd back onto the bar. "How are you?" he asked in return.

"Good. My bar's in one piece, my customrs are in one piece. All in all, things are looking up."

Now that everything had settled down and the station was safe, Dunham felt like he deserved a drink. The battle was won, and the USS Polux was still afloat, though with a few scars to show for it. Dunham smiled to himself, he had never commanded a starship in battle before even though it was only a small Wallace class garrison vessel. But it was a job well done, and as Dunham walked into the bar to get himself a drink he had a sense of self-satisfaction about him, and a little bit of a smile. "Soda and lime please" he asked the bar tender.

She grinned at him, her violet skin turning blue. "My favourite Lieutenant! Still alive I see."

"Kicking ass and taking names" said Dunham jovially, with a wink and smile.

She picked up the lime cordial, "Are you sure I can't tempt you to something a bit more exciting? Something a little less innocent?"

"An innocent drink to suit an innocent man my dear" Dunham smiled politely.

Yolanthe laughed, her skin turning to sky blue. "That can be fixed you know. A few proper drinks, an hour with one of Klia's more 'educational' holoprograms. Your woman would be thanking me."

Dunham smiled, "No thank you, she's a doctor, and knows many extragavant, and detailed ways to kick my ass. I'm one woman kind of guy, you know that." He said honestly

Maiell turned at the familiar voice to see the young officer he'd met while Rianni was in Sickbay. "Dunham, right?" he asked just to make sure he'd remembered correctly. As his tonic water was put in front of him, he took a short sip.

"Yep" said Dunham in a friendly manner, "Maiell, right? from the infirmary?"

"Yes," the Romulan nodded. "You look like you're in a good mood," he observed.

Dunham smiled to himself, "Any battle you can walk away from is a win in my book, and now that we have seen off those insurgents, and the station is getting back to normal, and I got some leave coming up for a holiday, its all good."

"I can't argue with that," Maiell said. "Well, except the first part, but the rest is good," he allowed. He didn't really see anything bad with dying in battle, like most of his people.

"Well dying isn't on my to do list, for a long time yet, to much love and responsibility on the home front to worry about that."

"Ah, that makes sense then. Married?" he suspected, sipping his tonic water, letting out an inaudible sigh as it relaxed his tension.

"Urrrm no, but as good as" said Dunham with another smile.

Maiell smiled. "Could've guessed. You have the 'look'," he informed him with a chuckle.

"The look?" asked Dunham quizzically?

"Yes," Maiell nodded. "You have that inner fire that's very visible in your eyes and you talk and walk as if you were invulnerable" he told him, then smirked, shaking his head. "Forgive me," he said softly. "I tend to get a little poetic. Just ask Yolanthe," he admitted, giving her a smile.

"You did wax lyrical last night." She winked at Dunham, "Though it could have been concussion from the bomb going off. Romulan sounds lovely even when you're swearing like a Klingon with a sore bum."

Dunham wondered if that was because of his relationship or his skills at his job "What about you Maiell, girl waiting for you back home?"

"Afraid not," Maiell admitted after a moment's hesitation. "Not anymore, I'm a widower," he said, expecting a reaction, since, by both appearance and age, he didn't really seem like the type to have gone through that. Thought by his words, he didn't seem more bothered by it that what was expected.

Dunham paused he wasn't very awkward moments, he shrugged "fair enough," he indicated to Yolanthe, "this man's next drink, is my tab." Dunham decided to change the conversation from something less morbid, "So what do you do on the station?"

"I work in Security at the Rihannsu Consulate," Maiell replied. "I was just telling Yolanthe that my cousin has come aboard. She's my new boss," he said.

"I can empathise mate," said Dunham with a small sigh. "Most of my family are in starfleet, or retired fleet. Working with family...." shook his head slightly from side to side, "sucks."

"Well, I wouldn't go that far. We are close, just...different," Maiell said.

"And now she's here, in your world as your boss...." Dunham frowned slightly "Good luck with that."

"Romulans don't believe in luck," Maiell told him with a friendly smirk, sipping his tonic water. "Guess I'm screwed," he laughed.

Dunham toasted the Romulan with a proffering of his glass, "looks like" he said with a sympathetic smile.
