Judgement – Treading rather carefully
by Lieutenant T'Pal & Chief Executive Officer Wayne Bradshaw
T'Pal leisurely read through what she could find on Wayne Bradshaw, the CEO and owner of Bradshaw Enterprises. Her slender fingers tapped the Padd to access his illustrious military career. Using her knowledge of Starfleet protocols, she attempted to access his classified records, but grunted frustrated when she realized that someone had found her access paths and blocked it.
"Damon Block," she said through clenched teeth. The moment she had *left* Starfleet, he had been after her. This Internal Investigations Officer at Starfleet HQ had been after her for years. He was an idealist and refused to belief that there was a less than clean side to serving the Federation. He had always believed that T'Pal had her own agenda, which was untrue while in service of the Federation. However, now he was quite right in his assumption.
It was rather annoying but the upside was that it had kept T'Pal on her toes. In fact it was quite annoying now as it would take her the better part of the morning to work her way in again. That would have to wait. There was an easier way.
While waiting for the information, T'Pal contacted the Bradshaw Enterprises head office for an appointment with the CEO to introduce herself and her business to him. She might also be interested in buying a small personal long distance vessel. Her credentials would check out as she did have a legitimate business with a strong fiscal profile.
Wayne had been alerted to the fact that someone had been trying to check up on his military background something that he had personally ordered sealed and hidden behind a dozen security measures. He was proud of his record true but t was not who he was and he felt that it should be private. Not to mention that there were some things there that had best not see the light of day if it was possible. So when he heard about the attempted hack and then the young lady trying to meet with him he put two and two togather and with a little streach he felt that he had the answers he needed. True he would still meet with her as any business was good business but he knew better then to just lay everything on the table right away.
He had an hour before she was supposed to arrive to talk over the purchase of a new long range high speed personal shuttle and he was going to make sure that she was impressed. his record might be sealed but he could and would still show off his history. Behind the desk stood the the SFMC flag as well as the diffant unit flags he had served with. in the middle of the wall hung the crossed sabers and pistol brace he had been given as well as the awards he had earned in his time. his desk was old earth dark oak wood and was guessed at around 200 years old. The furnisher was overstuffed dark leather and the overall appearance was one of old money and history.
He had just finished up his last bit of paperwork and pulled up the information on his visitor when a few minutes later she arrived.
T'Pal was ushered into his office right on time. Dressed in a form fitting sleaveless black dress stopping just above her knees and an elegant pair of high heels o compliment her dress, she looked every part the wealty business woman, which she was. Her business as security consultant had been highly successful, even if most of her money came from illegal part of her operations. Her thick hair was straightened and sleek, falling halfway down her back. She often hid her mixed heritage, but not today. Bradshaw would have checked up on her, she was certain, so there was no point in hiding either her pointed ears or the subtle ridges on her fore head.
As she stepped into the office, she observed her surroundings unobtrusively, taking special note of the decorations behind the man at the desk. "Mr Bradshaw," she said in a smooth voice. "Thank you for talking the time to meet with me...." she said.
"It is my pleasure Lt. Though I do have to wander why you need the services of my company. You realise that we do not exactly make run of the mill shuttles so to speak." Said Wayne calmly being careful to not mention any of the other things he had found out about her.
"Please call me T'Pal," she said as she walked forward. "I have resigned my commission and work independently now," she continued smoothly. "Which brings me to the reason for my visit," she said as she took the seat he had offered, crossing her legs. Idly she wondered what he had found out about her. "I could have gone to Brackhurst or Tru'o if I wanted a *run of the mill ship,* she said with a faint smile. "I am interested in a TR 2100i DX, the luxury model," she said. "I believe you can add a few modifications as well," she added.
Wayne could not help but to chuckle softly. "A woman who knows exactly what she wants and cuts straight to the heart I like that. Yes we can sell you what you are wanting as well as do the modifications you want. Though I have to ask why. The shuttle you are asking about is about 50,000 bars of gold pressed latnium. The back ground check we ran on you shows you can handle that kind of purchase easly enough but I still have to wander why. Also I know that you are currently independant but that you have worked for starfleet special operations in the past, I also know that you tried to access my personal records earlier. A very interesting idea and a good attempt but one that we had been expecting for years. I guess what I am saying is that while I can sell you the shuttle and would be happy to do so I can not help but think that there is another reason for your wanting it. Would you care to enlighten me as to that reason." Said Wayne bluntly after all if she was going to be blunt then he could be just as straightforward.
"I hadn't really thought that you would be interested in my motivation for wanting to by the shuttle," T'Pal replied with a quirk of her one eyebrow. She was there on a mission to suss Bradshaw out for a client of hers. Buying the shuttle was just to get her to see him, but the long time benifits with Raddon made thie expence more than worth while. In any case, she could use the shuttle very well. So she would tell him the truth, only not all of it. After pausing a while, she explained. "Part of my business requires me to test security systems, one of my clients being Starfleet itself. This shuttle with the unusual shield configuration and speed, low engine emissions and powerful sensors will prove to be of great value to me. Currently I use a mofified H-type Kinner, but it doesn't exactly have the luxury the TR has. And I travel far at times and I don't always want to travel alone," she said with a small meaningful smile.
"Alright that makes sense to me and I know from personal experiance that the Kinner is not the nicest shuttle for very long flights. I beleave we can accomodate your purchase. when would you like to take possession of the shuttle." Said Wayne calmly he knew he had been told at least part of the truth just not the whole truth about her reasons. still she was good at what she did her record showed that much maybe they could work something out for another aspect he might be able to use her for a little bit later on.
T'Pal handed him a Padd with the modifications she needed done. Most would seem completely innoscent to the untrained eye, but anyone with some intelligence experience would know that they changes could be utilized for less than legal applications. Fortunately her line of business would explain what she was asking for. Included were modified shield emitters, expanded communications bandwidth and higher yield torpedoes. "Just let me know how much exactly I need to transfer and I will do so when you require. I will need the shuttle in four days," she said.
"You are asking for a heck of alot not all of it exactly legal either. I think we can accomidate your requests well enough however I have a counter offer to make to you. As I said earlier I know what you used to do and likely still do so I would like to use your services for a little project of my own if you would care to discuss it." Said Wayne flattly he saw here a chance to take down a potential threat to his company as well as a man who had openly sworn to destroy him and his family.
The small smile played on T'Pal's lips again, indicating her interest in his proposal. But there things were sensitive and she had to be cautious. "Now first I have a question of my own," she said straightening her skirt as she unfolded her legs and refolded it to the other side. "What is it what you think I used to do and still do, mister Bradshaw?" she asked.
Wayne reached under his desk and flipped a little button. "Don't worry it is nothing harmfull I just do not want to have the risk of what I am about to say recorded or overheard." Said Wayne softly then he was silent for a few seconds
T'Pal inclined her head ever so slightly. "Understood." She knew exactly what he was talking about. It was leading their conversation onto a different level now, but the Vulcan in her remained cautious. It was always like a game. Information was given, responses were judged and then more information was given, until sufficient mutual understanding was created to come level with what was needed fdor mutual benefit.
"You ms. TaPal are or were at some point in the past a member of one of two groups. I would say either Starfleet Spec Ops or Starfleet Covert operations directorate in starfleet intell. I can not say with one hundred percent certainty but I would lean more toward the covert operations directorate. Some of the things you have done and the number of wholes in your record are the clues I had. Well that and you tried accessing information about me that even the president of the federation has never seen and can never be allowed to see." said Wayne bluntly he would leave the jammer on for the rest of this conversation and now it was her move.
"Believe me, Mr Bradshaw, there are parts of my record the President haven't seen either and he wouldn't want to either," she commented. No Federation president want to have anything to do with some of the assassinations she had had to do. And then of course she was used in other less desirable missions, like the elimination of high ranking civilians if kidnapped or captured by enemy forces and extraction was not possible. Those included scientists or politicians who possessed information that would proof to be a security risk for the Federaion of divulged, named *noose* operations. They mostly came into play during war. "I did work with Spec Ops, especially during the Dominion war," she remarked, leaving the fact that she warked for covert ops implied. "Starfleet Intelligence agencies are still my biggest clients..." she ventured.
"Now I am more sure then ever that I have the right person you answer a question without really answering it. The mark of a true operative." said Wayne bluntly
"It seems we have a few things in common," T'Pal responded dryly. She was interested in what Wayne had to say, and dipped her head ever so slighty.
"Now on to the project I want you to undertake for me, and for my family. There are two men whom have sworn basicly what amounts to a blood feud against my family. The brothers Simon and Melvin Raddon, Normally I would not involve anyone else in a family matter but it would seem that for some reason the Raddon family have some protection from the federation and others and is simply to big of a target to take out especially by us. I do have information and I have the money and resourses to facilitate a mission the company simply can not be seen haveing anything to do with it officially or unofficially if you know what I mean.
The mention of the name of her current client caused no response from the hybrid Vulcan. This could have been viewed as interesting by others, but to T'Pal, she merely took note of the information. "I understand, however, I work on only one contract at a time and since I am under obligation of a current contract I can only consider your offer once my current contractual requirements are fullfilled," she explained.
"In addition to your fee which I am sure is not cheap considering your background and experiance I am more then willing to offer you an amount not to exceed 25000 bars of gold pressed latnium." Said Wayne bluntly laying his cards on the table though if she even hinted that she would blab this information she would not leave the office alive he simply could not afford it.
T'Pal fully underestood confidentiality as well as the deadly consequences of her world. His offer was fair, but she had to be careful. Conflict of interest was something she had to deal with more often than expected even in Intelligence Agencies and more so in private contracts. "I hardly ever take on private work, but if warranted I will consider it," she explained. "My Klingon side demands that what I do must be honorable, in other words, the compensation is not my only motivation," she continued with a small smile. Even while in Starfleet, her handlers were well aware of the fact that T'Pal engaged in her own investigation before a hit.
"In addition to that I ask only for your silance in this matter weather you take the project of not is as always totally up to you either way you decide I will see to it that your shuttle is outfitted to your specs and beyond for the amount we agreed on." He added
"My silence is gauranteed, mister Bradshaw, if that you can be assured, wether I decide to take your offer or not," she said getting up. "I thank you of for your time. How would you like the funds to be transferred?" she asked.
"You can leave a draft with the receptionist for the amount of transfer the funds to this account at the 1st galactic bank of betazoid, And if you need anything else please feel free to contact me personally." Said Wayne calmly as he handed a small business card over to her with a series of numbers and letters on it signifing a bank account.
T"Pal nodded taking the padd. "I will transfer the payment right away..." she said. "And I will be in contact with you regarding the other matter..." she added before she left.
