Interlude – For Mutual Benefit (Part one)

:ON:
Denat waved the dense PADD infront of him while stepping out of the turbo-lift and stood out of it to let it close. He lightly stood on his toes and pressed back down on his heels. There were many guards and officers standing down the hallways. A small walk to the reception and he noticed no one was manning it. He patiently waited for someone to appear.
It was then that the Ambassador emerged from her suite after R;Vek had left. She intended only to check her appointments at reception but as she approached the area . Isha almost took a step back. She waved to her security detail to overtake her and only then did she notice who it wasn't.
"You appear to be lost," Isha said, "Uhlan Saren, show this ... Cardassian out," she said to one of the men.
"Wait, Isha" Denat held his hands forward and open, clasping the PADD in one to show his unhostile intention. The guards circled him into a brace. He did not strain himself, no blood was to be shed today, there was no intention, neither would it be his or Isha's.
"Who are you and what do you want?" she asked him, making no move to signal that the guard should release him. If Getal thought he could start throwing flunkies at her now he had another thing coming.
"Meran, uh, Denat Meran." He cited his name as asked, wanting to show he meant no deception. He looked at the PADD in his hand and looked at the Rihannsu again, "This, it's from Tharek." Denat lowered the top towards her for her to reach for it.
Isha glanced at the padd but did not reach for it. She folded her arms and stared Meran right in the eye, "Unless that padd contains his suicide note, there is nothing in this Quadrant that Tharek Getal could have to say that would be of interest to me," she told him and though her her tone was even, Isha was seething under it.
Denat unexpectedly bumped his eyebrow. "Miss, it contains a, sensitive piece of information which I think would interest you."
"Given that I have already advised you what sort of information pertinent to Getal I am interested in hearing, answer me this. Why would a lackey come here to give me sensitive information that would undermine his master?" Isha asked, "and do make it a good answer, I could do with a laugh," she added wondering if she should have Saren hold him just a little too hard and damage him.
"I did not say that it was information that regarded Tharek." He replied, not addressing Tharek as Vi'kar Gul. "I think it is important that you keep it to yourself, go to your office, read it there. I think I shall wait here." He said still locked in his arms by the guard. Obviously he had no choice, but, giving Isha the option for him to accompany her, she might ask what PADD was about.
"Saren, bring him through and sit him down," she said quite conspicuously taking the sidearm from her other guard as she did so. "If I don't like what I hear I'm going to shoot you, Meran," she said as she walked, "and this weapon has no stun setting."
He probably had no idea why she was taking such precautions, or maybe he did, Isha simply did not know. What she did know was that whoever this Meran was he wanted to tell her something and in private. "Wait outside," Isha said to Saren as she settled into her chair, the disruptor leaning on the edge of her desk and pointed at her 'guest' opposite. "Well?"
"Isha, I'm going to stand up walk to the window," he said in a quiet tone and he did so. Isha had kept the disruptor centered on him, he knew it. A moment passed then Denat spoke. "Do you see that star there?" he asked pointing the lower quadrant of the glass.
"The sky is full of stars," Isha replied, ignoring for the second time that he presumed to call her by her given name, though to the best of her knowledge they had never met before. "Meran, if all you want to do is drone on to a woman about how lovely the stars are I am sure that if you look hard enough you will find one who is quite happy to receive payment for the privilege of listening to you. Is there a point to this?" she asked remaining in her chair, the disruptor still trained on him.
"To explain what the PADD is for, you need to hear this first," he said honestly. "That star, the system is called j'naila, close to my home planet. I was ordered with Tharek and several others to beam to planet and discuss with the aliens a cease-fire: we had a handful of skirmishes regarding who it belonged to.."
"First you want to talk to me about Getal, then you don't, now you do!" Isha said, "At least he is focussed and to the point," she snapped not quite able to believe that she could find anything positive to say about the man. "So you introduced them to Cardassian diplomacy! I'm so terribly pleased for you. Did they appreciate it?"
"Hey! In all honesty we were their first, and their ships came to low orbit and destroyed our outpost!" he barked. Denat remained looking out the window and at the distant system. "When they beamed to the planet to negotiate, I stepped forward to address them, they had their children with them. I heard Tharek behind me roar at them and he fired on the children from behind me." Denat almost broke down in front of the Rihannsu. "Since then, he changed."
For a moment Isha lowered her gaze, though not the weapon that rested on her knee. "When did this happen, Meran?" she asked. Meran's statement was misaligned, to Isha it was very clear that Getal had changed before he took the alleged action, it was not a cause but a consequence. "And why are you telling me?" she continued still staring at his back.
Denat turned to Isha, his mouth was welded shut but his teeth were gritting clearly. "Because," he said. "You have seen him!" Denat began to walk about gesturing to inanimate objects as if they were listening too. "The way he walks, the way he snarls orders, the way he thinks he is almighty because he is an Obsidian agent. I'm sick of it!" He paused.
Denat walked up to Isha close, and as she raised the disruptor it pressed into his stomach.
"I want Tharek Getal dead."
