David had not formally met the Captain, he wasn't sure what to expect. He stepped to the door of her office and pressed the chime.

It was one of those rare occasions that Tasha had wanted a bit of private time and had just sat down with a green tea when the chime sounded. She sighed as she pressed the entry button on her console and pushed the cup to her left.
As soon as the Ensign appeared in the opening doorway, she knew it was the propulsion specialist, David Straggard.
"Come in, take a seat Ensign." She said with a smile.

David reached out to shake the captain's hand. "It's a pleasure, Captain." David sat down a bit awkwardly. He looked to the captain for a response. He was unsure of what she may want to say to him since this was their first meeting.

As their hands parted, Tasha followed the Ensigns lead and retook her seat.
"Mister Straggard. How are you setting in the station?" She asked gently.

"I've adjusted quite well. I've made friends, contributed to missions, and have made myself useful to the station." David said confidently.

Tasha pondered on his responses as she leant forward. "Good, I'm happy that you have found the station easy to settle into, some take a long time to find their place." She stated easing herself back into her chair. "What are you long terms plans?" She asked as she drew a PADD from the draw.

"I see my self working more actively in engineering. I've taken some night shifts while working my normal shifts. I'm not sure where I would be more fitted. I think a propulsion specialist aboard a starbase is impractical. What do you think, Captain? Does the title matter?" David sounded a bit dissatisfied...

Tasha thought about it for a moment before replying and did not miss out on the lack of enthusiasm in David statement.
"I think it best to talk to Commander Freeman, but personally yes, I can still see the need for a propulsion specialist, after all, we get a great deal of different ships in and out of the station and they are not all the same and most are not even Federation ships." She cupped her hands into her lap as she leant forward, "Why, were you considering another specialist field?"

"No another field, just the title. I was thinking something a bit more general. Like an Engineering Officer." David said.

The Captain grinned to herself as she leant back once more. "I think we can arrange that for you." She said not missing out on the fact that he was angling for a bit more meat to his role and maybe a step up the ladder.
"And I'll even sweeten the pot for you, come back to me in a week and we'll talk again and maybe look at promoting you, ensign." She added as if to conclude the meeting.

David's eyebrow raised slightly in surprise. "Thank you ma'am." David got up to shake her hand again.

Tasha rose from her seated position, accepted and reciprocated the handshake. "You are welcome ensign." She said with a seriousness to her minimalistic smile.
