They put the sign up first, Yolanthe clambering up on the portico over the doors with ease, and hauling the wrapped sign into place. A couple of turns with a spanner, and it was secure. She reached down, hauled Klia off the ladder and left her there to fiddle with the electrics.
Inside a couple of beefy Lurians were rolling Klia's industrial replimat into position. Once that was in, the stud walling would go up, the projectors would go in, Klia wouldn't sleep for a couple of days, and at the end of it, she would have her bar. Her communicator beeped, 'Okay,' Klia's voice told her, 'throw the switch.'
The main panel was right at the back, and she squeezed past the Lurians to get to it. She touched her two fingers to the smooth black panel for a moment. No going back from here. She slid her fingers all the way down. Her ears picked up just the faintest whine as long unused power cabling woke into life.
Outside, the sign glowed pinkly under the sheet. Klia wriggled down onto the ladder and slid down it as Yolanthe came out to join her. She handed her friend the rope. 'Ready?'
Yolanthe nodded and tugged the rope. The canvas fell away, lighting the darkened Promenade with rich red neon.
The Box of Delights

Banging and clattering cascaded freely from the interior of the Box of Delights. Occasionally lights flashed. Close to midnight, voices could be made out, drifting through the slats in the shutters.
'Try now'
'Computer, load program test two'
'Loading...'
'Klia? My pleasure goddess is wonky.'
'What? don't be ridiculous, how can your...? She's wonky.'
'Well I didn't ask for her that way. Unless the standard program assumes you want your pleasure in zero gravity. It has to be your set up.'
'There's nothing wrong with my set up, it is a finely tuned bespoke customized field binder, with the best load tolerance and split-perspective co-projection that latinum can buy You must have done something'
'Obviously,' sarcasm dripped from every word, 'Because I order sideways sex all the time. What do you want me to do, provide the customers with step ladders?'
Silence followed, then, 'Got it!' Spatial Orientation Unit's getting feedback.'
A deep sigh, 'Computer, reload.' A long pause. 'Oh for crying out loud.'
'What now? Oh. Er, is that possible, or is that a clipping error?'
'Klia. Please just fix it. Before my backside goes numb.'
