History
Though a bit shorter and slimmer than most Andorians, no one would know of his Betazoid heritage unless he told them. they did a medical scan, or they had access to his classified records.

He was born on September 21,2357. His mother Jemma Elburn was the Betazed ambassador to Andoria. His father was a ranking member of the Supreme Cooperative. Though a shadow of it's original self prior to the take over by the Terran Empire, it did nonetheless hold some sway and his family was one of the wealthiest on the planet.

Shortly after his birth J'anitar's parents were divorced. Supposedly this was because Jemma was too much of a free spirit and had an eye for other men, but in reality it was done to protect J'anitar from the Empire. Hie Betazoid heritage would have put himself in a perilous position

He is a natural empath and finds reading emotions quite easy. To read thoughts he must touch another person. The more intimate the touch the more powerful and detailed the thoughts he picks up.

J'anitar, or Jan to his friends had a natural gift for and love of languages.By the time he was 15 he could speak his own languages, Empire Standard, Klingon, Romulan and Bajoran. He was also quite adept at electronics especially when came to communication and security systems.

He hated the Terran Empire and all that it stood for with a deep abiding passion. But he learned to mask his rebellion. For all intents and purposes he was a good and loyal follower of the Empire.

While many of his friends wanted to be part of the Imperial Guard, he volunteered to join the Empire. He attended the Academy and was a very competent student. He became fluent in Vulcan and Cardassian while at the Academy.

Instead of the standard four years at the Academy Jan spent 6 years there. Not because of poor performance but because the Empire wanted someone that could pose as a typical Communications Specialist but who was also a security expert.

He was trained in Krava Maga, small weapons, tactics and the other typical security areas, but the primary focus was on criminology and investigations. While in his fifth year at the Academy he also began a Ph.D program in linguistics. By the time he was 26 he was out of the Academy and he had completed all of his work for his Ph.D.

He rose quickly in the ranks, because he was quite good at what he did.

When he was 29 he had risen to the rank of Lieutenant and was well on his way to becoming a Lieutenant Commander and he was a trusted member of the Empire. In fact he was one of those chosen to learn about a project to find a portal to the Federation universe so that a preemptive strike could be launched.

One of the leading scientist mysteriously wound up dead and so Jan found himself in the enviable and dangerous task of conducting an investigation into a crime that he himself had committed. In the course of that investigation he discovered that things were much closer than everyone was letting on. In fact a prototype device had been created.

Six months ago, literally in the middle of the night, the other five scientist working on the device and the general technology were killed and all the data concerning it was stolen. The computers holding the information was wiped clean and the only copy of it moved to seven memory disks.

Jan then escaped by activating the device.

He found himself in the Federation universe and managed to make his way to Star Fleet headquarters, where he shared his story and the copies of the information.

For the past five months he has been going through debriefing sessions and training in the Federation way of doing things. He has found it a welcome change from the ways of the Empire.

He still has guilt issues over the killing of the six scientists and knows that his parents have probably been killed for his action and this too troubles him greatly. But he felt he had no other choice.

Only his Commanding Officer(s) know his real background. For everyone else has always been a part of the Federation. He is still adapting to his new culture and has much to learn. So he can come off as very stand-offish because he doesn't want to "blow his cover."

Jan is naturally friendly and since coming over to the Federation Universe that has only increased. One former instructor at Star Fleet Academy even described him as a social butterfly. Jan is looking for the right woman or man to settle down with, but until that time he is not opposed to having some fun along the way.
